Job Title: Transport Officer
Reports to: General Manager
Background
Birya United Agencies Limited is a private company limited strategically located in Mbarara City Southwestern Uganda; approximately 268Km from the capital Kampala. The company started in 2003 and is engaged in agricultural value chains for mainly cereals and pulses with experience in agribusiness, hospitality, and construction. The company works with a network of 2,700 smallholder farmers and individual traders in the districts of Mbarara, Isingiro, Rwampara, Kiruhura, Ibanda, Kamwenge, Ntungamo, Rukiga, Kabale, and Lyantonde. The has built a clientele portfolio that includes but not limited to Ministry of Defense and Veterans Affairs, Office of the Prime Minister, Office of the President, and Uganda Police Force.
Responsible for:
Responsible for overseeing Company fleet, dispatching of Drivers, monitoring vehicle movement, ensuring timely and proper maintenance and repairs, tracking fuel usage and consumption rates
Roles and Responsibilities
- Plan, organize and coordinate vehicle movements through proper supervision of all drivers.
- Develop and implement guidelines and procedures for fleet management at the Company.
- Maintain proper inventory of all components of vehicles, and ensure they are maintained and checked frequently.
- Keenly track repairs and costs as part of monitoring and overseeing the repair processes.
- Prepare requisitions for servicing, repair and maintenance.
- The Transport Officer will propose improvements in the existing transport processes, systems and tools.
- Track vehicle and fuel usage and consumption rates; ensure that potential problems or fuel misuse is raised to management.
- Track vehicle registration and insurance and liaise with management to ensure these are always renewed in a timely manner.
- Periodically collect vehicle logs from the field and review them for accuracy and follow up on field transport operations.
Required skills
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or Automobile engineering from a recognized University/Institution.
- Or A Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Automobile engineering from a recognized University/Institution.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in motor vehicle transport operations and management in a reputable Institution.
- Possess a valid driving license with a minimum class C.
- Effective communication skills.
- Exceptional leadership and organizational skills.
