Result of Service (Purpose):
Provide safe and reliable driver services, maintain vehicles, and assist with administrative operations to support effective implementation of the Trade for Jobs Uganda initiative.
Work Location: Kampala, Uganda
Expected Duration: One (1) year, with possibility of extension
Background
Trade for Jobs Uganda is a five-year initiative (2025–2030) co-led by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Trade Centre (ITC), funded by Sida. Using a market systems approach, the project leverages trade to create decent jobs and increase incomes for women and men living in poverty in Uganda by strengthening two high-potential sectors: dairy and tourism. It aligns with NDP IV (2025/26–2029/30) on production, productivity, and value addition, by:
- Strengthening regional and global trade of dairy products and tourism services, with a focus on micro-enterprises and SMEs.
- Supporting MSMEs through value addition, diversification, competitiveness, and an improved business environment.
- Engaging Swedish companies to leverage expertise, services, products, and private investment.
- The approach is partner-driven and evidence-based to deliver sustainable impact at scale.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the ITC Trade for Jobs Uganda Project Manager and in close coordination with the Deputy Team Lead, the Driver will:
Transport & Protocol
- Drive vehicles safely to transport authorized personnel.
- Meet officials and visitors at the airport; support protocol, visa and customs formalities; interact tactfully with officials and visitors.
- Deliver and collect mail, documents, and other items.
Vehicle Care, Records & Compliance
- Ensure proper day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles: minor repairs, arranging major repairs, oil changes, tire/brake/water checks, and regular washing to keep vehicles clean and roadworthy.
- Ensure accurate daily vehicle logs and preparation of maintenance plans and documentation.
- Maintain availability of required documents/supplies: insurance, registration, logs, office directory, city/country map, first-aid kit, MOSS-compliant equipment, and basic spare parts.
- Inform supervisor in a timely manner of (re)registration and insurance procedures for all office vehicles.
Safety & Security
- Stay updated on the security situation and road risks; advise the office on alternatives as needed.
- Follow required steps in case of accidents, in line with rules and regulations.
Administrative Support
- Assist with filing, photocopying, maintaining stores, and performing data entry duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Copyright/Accreditation
- Obtain necessary permissions for any third-party intellectual property used during the consultancy and provide documentary proof to ITC.
- Request prior written permission from ITC if any license fees are required.
- Secure event accreditation where necessary.
Qualifications / Special Skills
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Valid driver’s license (required).
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of work experience as a driver with a safe driving record (required).
- A university degree may be accepted in lieu of the years of relevant experience.
- Experience with technical cooperation projects (desirable).
- Experience with UN Common System offices, field missions, embassies, ministries, consulates, international organizations, or NGOs (desirable).

Languages
- Fluency in English (required).
- Knowledge of other language(s) spoken in Uganda (asset).
Additional Information
- Contract administered on behalf of ITC by UNOPS.
- Open to locally residing nationals of Uganda authorized to work at the duty station.
- Applicants selected from outside the duty station are responsible for their relocation expenses.
