DRC Uganda is currently looking for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join our dynamic team as Protection Officer- Gender Based Violence (GBV)

The overall purpose of the role:

The Protection Officer-GBV is responsible for implementing quality GBV prevention and response activities at field level. The role ensures safe, confidential, and survivor-centred GBV case management, psychosocial support, community-based GBV prevention approaches, and effective referral services in line with national laws, Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) guidelines, and organizational policies.

Responsibilities or duties:

Project development, implementation and reporting

  • Support protection risk assessment in the GBV field and ongoing risks analysis to design adequate responses.
  • Engage men, boys, women, and girls to promote positive gender norms and GBV risk mitigation.
  • Work closely with community leaders and structures to strengthen GBV prevention mechanisms.
  • Oversee the daily quality implementation, monitoring and evaluation of GBV- related activities in Bidi-Bidi.
  • Make sure that all the protection projects adhere to the highest protection standards and principles as well as DRC guidelines and accountability standards.
  • Strengthen prevention and response mechanisms to all forms of abuse through sensitizations, trainings, Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials, capacity building of community structures etc.
  • Facilitate structured individual and group Psychosocial Support (PSS) sessions for women and girls.
  • Support the operation of Women and Girls’ Safe Spaces (WGSS) and ensure safe, inclusive programming.
  • Support survivors to access medical, psychosocial, legal, and safety services through established referral pathways.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential GBV case files in line with data protection protocols.
  • Identify and manage high-risk and emergency GBV cases and escalate as per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Support rapid GBV risk assessments and emergency response activities.
  • Facilitate and support awareness-raising activities and advocate for the prevention of GBV within the communities
  • Ensure GBV Standard Operating Procedures are in place and followed by all parties
  • In collaboration with the Protection Team Leader proactively contributes to quality and timely weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
  • Ensure all registered GBV cases are timely updated in ProGres V4 and the GBV case tracker.

Coordination and representation

  • Develop relationships with a range of key stakeholders, including donors, Local Government, and other stakeholders on the GBV thematic areas at the field level in close cooperation with the Protection Team Leader.
  • Representation of DRC and active participation in the local GBV working groups and any other protection coordination meetings at field level.
  • Ensure close co-ordination in project implementation with partners (UN agencies and national/international NGOs), including referrals, protection gap analysis, and advocacy.
  • Actively liaise with other DRC sectors and ensure the integration of the GBV intervention in all the activities.
  • Link with the legal aid sub-sector/Partner and ensure access to justice for the GBV survivors.
  • Support mapping and updating of GBV services and referral pathways.
